Cora sea buckthorn variety
The hardy, productive cultivar of the Orberry range. Cora grows fast, yields 20–22 t/ha in mature orchards, shows good resistance to fusarium wilt and has an outstanding processing profile: 22.5 mg of carotenoids and 340 mg of ascorbic acid per 100 g of juice. COMMERCIAL CHARACTERISTICS
A variety for professional orchards.
FRUIT & PROCESSING
Purpose-led genetics.
Cora is suited to processing in all its forms, and especially to carotenoid-oriented products (oil, pulp, cosmetics). Its strengths are a large fruit of 10–12 mm and 0.54 g with no pubescence, the lowest acidity in the range (4.15%) and high carotenoids (22.5 mg per 100 g of juice). Sugar 12.3 °Brix; oil 5.2%.
ORCHARD PROFILE
Grow with intent.
Medium-to-high vigour, semi-erect habit with a wide crown and annual growth of over 200 cm. Economic yields from year 3; yield potential of 20–22 t/ha in mature irrigated orchards at 3.5 × 1.25 m. Good resistance to fusarium wilt makes Cora the reference cultivar for difficult soils and sites.
HARVEST
A distinct harvest position.
Late — fifteen days after Clara — with a harvest window of 12–14 days. Oval-to-round, bright-orange fruit on a long peduncle; 79% pulp and juice.
WATCH-OUTS
Plan for the site.
Slightly more thorns than Mara and Clara (5–6 cm), without consequence for cutting-harvest. Strong suckering in the first 4–5 years.
Juice composition: irrigated culture in Arad, five-year averages; oil is measured in fresh fruit. Yield potential: irrigated mature orchard at 3.5 × 1.25 m; results depend on site, season and management.
POLLINATION
Designed with Andros in mind.
Sea buckthorn is wind-pollinated. Andros is integrated according to planting geometry, pollination needs and field layout; its final number and placement are planned for your orchard.
POLLINATION IN THE ORCHARD
The orchard layout determines the number and placement of Andros plants.
